Yes – you can start the course whenever you feel it’s right for you. For the IFPA accreditation you need to complete the course within 3 years of your start date.
If you study around 6 hours a week you should complete the course in 9 – 12 months. It really depends on how deeply you want to study each part of the course. As it’s an online course there are no submission dates so you can study at your own pace at a time that’s convenient for you.
There is provision to apply to the IFPA for an extension to your study time
Aromatherapy only is the qualification you receive if you choose to study the Aromatherapy and Anatomy & Physiology modules but do not wish to include the Massage element. This is the preferred choice of many non-UK students
There is no requirement to complete the Massage element of the course. It is your choice whether you include it in your studies.
Yes – you will be listed as ‘Aromatherapy only’ on the IFPA member’s area
The IFPA (International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists) is a worldwide organisation and the qualification is accepted in many countries. However, it is the student’s responsibility to research if it is legal and acceptable in the country in which they want to practice
On successful completion of all the required elements of the course you will be able to use the title Clinical or Professional Aromatherapist
The exams are taken online and invigilated through a video link. They are verified by an external examiner
The IFPA qualification is accepted by other Aromatherapy and Therapy based organisation. However, it is the student’s responsibility to find out this information. In 2017 Essentially Holistic has been accepted by the AIA (Allliance of International Aromatherapsits) as a Level 3 (400 hour) recognized course.
To gain the full qualification there is a requirement to complete and pass the Anatomy & Physiology course
If your qualification is Level 3 or above and you are either using your qualification or it has been obtained in the last 3 years, then it is possible to apply for your A&P element of the course to be APL’ed (Advance & Prior Learning)
The course is website based with lots of links to videos, podcasts and there are lots of ways to work on the course. Some students do it solely online whilst others download the manuals and use them on e-readers or in traditional paper format. The course workbooks are available to complete on cloud based storage or you can e-mail them in. There is a weekly catch up e-mail with interesting snippets and news
These are regular 1 hour sessions on Monday morning and evening weekly and twice a month we do Study Saturday where there are 3 or 4 sessions spread over the morning (UK time). These sessions cover essential oil, carrier oil and hydrolat studies, blending, case study scenarios, essential A&P and a few fun sessions. It is a great chance to meet other students so you don’t feel you’re studying alone. (There is a requirement to complete a minimum of 40 hours live study through the study sessions.) If you need extra support you can have one to one tutorials. There are 2 optional study days at Essentially Holistic included in the price of the modules which can be taken during your course on planned dates
You will be asked to set up a Google e-mail account at the start of your studies. No other software or specialised programmes are required
